Court Removal Thanks

Special thanks to the 5th and 6th grade classes, Mrs. Williamson, Teri Aguiar, Jim Blasko and Daniel Aguilar for helping remove the Rhino basketball court for the Festival. The removal not only provides exercise for the students but also instills stewardship and the importance of taking care of our campus.

School Advisory Board Openings

The School Advisory Board (SAB) advises the Pastor and Principal on matters pertaining to the school.  The SAB meets monthly during the school year.  Meetings last about 1 hour.  In addition there are committee meetings held during the month and other commitments throughout the school year.

Three members on the SAB are selected each year for a three year term.  One of those is elected by school parents and that vote is held on the day of the Volunteer Luncheon, which will take place on Friday, April 27th.

The specific committees that we are looking for expertise on are:

  • Enrollment – Responsible for attracting new families and retaining existing families.
  • Development – This will be a newly created committee that will be responsible for  promoting Catholic Education Arizona to the school and parish community.
  • Finance –Responsible for working with the Parish Finance Council on financial matters pertaining to the school.

We are looking for parents who have the above expertise and interest to run for the School Advisory Board.  I’d encourage you to visit with any current SAB member, Dr. Sheridan, or Father John.  SAB members can be found on the school website under the “School Board” link.

Nomination petitions are available in the school office.  Forms must be turned in by Wednesday, April 4th.

If you have specific questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at helenv212@cox.net or 602-295-4632.

School Advisory Board Happenings

On behalf of the School Advisory Board (SAB) I’d like to provide OLMC school parents with an update on SAB activities. Since our last newsletter update in October, your SAB has been working on the development of a 3-5 year strategic plan. The plan is designed to assist Dr.Sheridan, Father John, Finance Council, parents and parishioners to insure our school continues to be a strong and vibrant provider of Catholic-based education. Below are a few other recent projects:

-Enrollment Committee held two Open House functions for new families and implemented a significant marketing campaign sharing the many benefits of OLMC with the community.

-Enrollment Committee continues to promote Catholic Education Arizona (formerly CTODP) throughout the parish communities.

-Participated in the Diocesan grant writing workshop

-Technology Committee is finalizing plans for “technology week” this spring.

- Campus Enhancement Committee proposed two improvement projects for future consideration, one of which will be completed this summer.

Finally, SAB will have three vacancies after the current school year. Should you have an interest in serving on SAB, I’d encourage you to visit with any current SAB member, Dr. Sheridan, or Father John. SAB members can be found on the school website under the “School Board” link. Elections and appointments take place in April/May. More details will follow.

Principal’s Corner

Dr. SheridanThe school held a “Taste of Kindergarten” today. Parents with children ready for kindergarten or preschool next fall came to learn about OLMC. Fr. John addressed the parent visitors while their children had the opportunity to attend kindergarten or preschool.

We tried something different than in past years. We wanted to have prospective parents and students experience OLMC over the course of a morning. I think that the longer people stay on this campus, the more they will appreciate OLMC, the education and community.

“A Taste of Kindergarten” will not replace the other activities which will take place during Catholic Schools Week. If you know families who have older children or who could not be with us on Veterans Day, remind them to contact us about these other opportunities.

Just as the kindergarteners and preschoolers enjoyed their time here, the others will like what they see and hear.
