Next Wednesday, Feb. 22 is Ash Wednesday, marking the start of Lent and our preparation for Easter. Our regular weekly school Mass at 2pm is also a parish-wide Mass so you may want to arrive early if you plan to join us.
Ash Wednesday is not a holy day of obligation because it is not a principal liturgical feast and does not commemorate a specific event.
However it is a day of prayer, penance and abstinence and Mass is a fitting way to mark the start of the Lenten season. If you’d like to know more about Ash Wednesday, there’s a good article on Wikipedia. For the current Catholic calendar and more about holy days of obligation, see BeginningCatholic.com.
