We will not be having a school Mass next Wednesday, May 1 .
Our annual May Crowning Mass is this Friday, May 3 @ 11:15am. This Mass marks the start of our graduation activities so our 8th Grade students will wear their caps and gowns to this Mass.
The ceremonial crowning of Mary as Queen of Heaven is a Catholic tradition dating back to 16th century Italy. You can read more about the history of May Crowning and other May devotions to Mary on Wikipedia. There is also a great series of articles on Marian traditions on AmericanCatholic.org.
The May Crowning Mass will serve as our weekly school Mass. As a result, there is no school Mass this Wednesday. Due to the added ceremony, Friday’s Mass will start a little earlier than usual at 11:15am and all are welcome.
Please note that this a very popular Mass, especially with parents and family of our graduating 8th graders. So you may want to plan to arrive early and be respectful of those who are celebrating this important milestone with their students.
