Members of the OLMC School Advisory Board attended the Diocesan School Board In-service held at St. Mary’s High School last week. The in-service began with Mass and words from keynote speaker Sr. Mary Jordan Hoover, O.P., future principal of St. John Paul II Catholic High School–which is scheduled to begin serving the community of the far west valley in the fall of 2018.
School board members and administrators from around the diocese gathered for several workshops centered around upholding the mission of Catholic schools in the diocese. MaryBeth Mueller, superintendent of schools, was in attendance as well as various representatives from the Diocese, Catholic Education Arizona, and the Diocesan School Board.
Workshop topics included exceptional students in Catholic schools, the ESSA Act, understanding and marketing Catholic Education Arizona, recruiting volunteers, pursuing effective board leadership, effective communication, and programs to enhance enrollment and meet student interests. The in-service ended in a panel discussion about steps to increasing Latino enrollment and the Diocese of Phoenix Board Commissioning.
