Newsletter: Last Chance to Vote for Burkhardt

Principal’s Corner – October 30, 2016

Dear OLMC Community,

Next week we will have conferences November 2-4. Conferences are a great way for parents to answer their questions and receive feedback about their children’s progress. Bells will ring every fifteen minutes to start/end conferences. At the end of your conference, should you feel the need for further discussion with your child’s teacher, please make arrangements to meet again at a later date. Out of respect to all families and the teacher’s schedules, please adhere to the bells.

At conferences you will receive your child’s ITBS score report from the exams students took in September. It is important to remember that the value of these tests is in using them for their diagnostic purposes. By careful review of results over the course of a few years, parents and teachers can discern specific areas where students may need additional support.  No student should ever be measured by one assessment, as it may not accurately convey the student’s overall learning. Each of our children has specific gifts and abilities that are not always measurable in one format.

Finally, two requests this week. Now that first quarter has ended and the students are in the routine of how to begin their day, I would ask that all parents please depart classrooms when the final bell rings at 8:15 a.m. It is important for the teachers to be able to get the students started on schedule. Thank you for your cooperation.  Also, when exiting the parking lot, please remember to drive slowly and exercise caution when turning out onto Rural Road. Thank you for your commitment to keeping our community safe.
