Newsletter: November Brings Opportunity with FFT

Principal’s Corner – November 13, 2016

Dear OLMC Community,

On Friday of last week, we hosted prospective families for our Taste of Kindergarten event. I am grateful to all of our parent volunteers who helped make the morning a success and were so welcoming to those who are looking forward to joining our community.

I would also like to thank the Dad’s Club for hosting family movie night on Saturday. It was wonderful to see everyone out with their blankets and lawn chairs enjoying the weather and sharing time with other members of our community.

Please be reminded that Friday is a half day. It is also STEM day at OLMC which means students will spend the day listening to speakers and participating in activities revolving around flight. Mr. Burkhardt and his team have put an incredible amount of time and effort in to making this day special for the children. Students may wear jeans with their OLMC polo shirts for STEM day, as they will spend the majority of their time outside on the field. Please check in on our social media outlets throughout the day for pictures of the event.

From the Falcon’s Nest: AZ Science Lab & the Phoenix Zoo

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This past week, our junior high students visited the Arizona Science Lab located at Evans Learning Center in Tempe. The students participated in workshops that centered around aerodynamics and Newton’s Laws of Motion, and had the opportunity to engage in the engineering process by designing, building, testing, and launching a model rocket. See the launch>>

The 4th graders visited the Phoenix Zoo to learn about animals and their habitats. Home to more than 1,400 animals, the Phoenix Zoo gives visitors a better appreciation for all creatures and the world around them.

We’d like to thank all those that participate in the FFT program for making these field trips possible. Your contributions bring lessons to life for our students.

Google for Education

As educators tasked with preparing our students for a future rife with technological advancement, OLMC takes every opportunity to integrate new technology in the classroom. One program that is helping schools teach in and out of the classroom is Google Classroom. Our middle and upper grades use this program in their Spanish classes to organize and distribute assignments. We invite you to view the video above to see how it works. As always, you can contact us with any questions you may have.
