Newsletter: How to Prepare for STO Season

Principal’s Corner – January 8, 2017

hermieDear OLMC Community,

As we begin the second semester, I want to take an opportunity to thank all of our parent volunteers who give so much to the school. The active roles you play in our students lives serves to enhance their school experience and deepen our community ties, and for that I am grateful.

If you are a parent who would like to be involved in our school but has yet to take the opportunity, please let us know and we would be happy to help you find a place to serve.

Casino Night is coming up on January 21st. This is a great evening, put on by our Dad’s Club, that benefits the school. We hope that you will join us for dinner, some casino games, and fellowship with other parents in our community.

STOsGear Up for 2017-18 STO Applications

Student Tuition Organization (STO) application season is just around the corner. While many of our standard STOs have not released their 2017-18 applications, it’s never to early to start preparations.

Many Arizona STOs require applicants to complete their 2016 tax returns before submitting applications. Be sure to research your desired STOs for prerequisites, application fees, open dates, and submission deadlines.

Here’s just some of the latest news:

Be sure to visit our Arizona Tuition Tax Credit Organizations, Empowerment Scholarship Account, and Catholic Education Arizona pages for more information, and stay tuned to the newsletter for the latest news and information.

This Week on Campus

This week we welcomed back our falcons from break, and what a week it was.

Inspired by the book entitled The Gift of the Magi, Mrs. Shewbridge presented a video of the story to the 8th grade. After a discussion about God’s sacrifice in giving us His most precious Son–as illustrated by the characters’ own sacrifice–the students decorated and filled boxes with notes to each person in their families. Each note detailed how much the members of the family mean to the students. We hope the loved ones of our 8th graders enjoyed the Magi boxes the students created especially for them and the love they represent.

Mr. Burkhardt introduced a new STEM project for the 8th grade using a 3D printer. We can’t wait to see what those young engineering minds create.

Our 7th graders made posters for spring sports registration, and the 4th and 5th grade students mugged for the camera during pizza lunch Friday. Thanks, falcons, for bringing so much joy and creativity to our school community.

New Preschool Play Equipment Thanks to FFT

Take a look at the newly-installed playground equipment at the preschool! We’d like to thank all those who participate in our FFT program for making this possible and our special volunteers for assembling our Kinetic Chute Play Panel. Thanks, Falcon families!
