2018 Festival News – “Mt. Carmel Fiesta”

The 2018 OLMC “Mt. Carmel Fiesta”  Festival is right around the corner:

Saturday, April 21, 2018

12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Each family is required to complete a minimum of six (6) volunteer hours for the festival.  (Preschool ONLY families are required to complete a minimum of four (4) hours for the festival. If families have students in BOTH the preschool and the elementary school, six (6) hours are required.) Two of those hours may be completed prior to the festival week, but at least four (4) hours must be completed between Monday, April 16 and Sunday, April 22, 2018.

Students may not fulfill the family volunteer requirement; however, this is an excellent opportunity for high school students to earn service credit hours.

Please note, per the school contract, if you do not fulfill your required hours you will be charged $100.00 per uncompleted hour ($50.00 per hour for preschool only).

We are currently working on the festival signup genius. Each family was assigned a Family ID, which will be included on the festival packets when they are sent home with eldest siblings. This Family ID will be required in order to sign up for your family’s volunteer hours on the festival signup genius. This will help in tracking and reporting all family volunteer hours.  For questions regarding volunteer hours, please email Ashley Hall, Festival Volunteer Coordinator.

1. PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

Dear OLMC Community,hermie

I want to thank the Dad’s Club for hosting our annual Casino Night on Saturday. It was an outstanding event benefitting the school and a great opportunity for our parent community to gather for fellowship and fun. Thank you Dad’s Club for all your hard work in putting the event together, and I thank our donors who helped make the night a success.

This week the Diocese of Phoenix will celebrate Catholic Schools Week. At OLMC we have a full slate of events for our students to engage in.

On Monday morning, students will attend mass in the church at 8 a.m. I would ask that all parents do their best to have students on campus by that time. Any students who arrive after 8 a.m. will leave their backpacks in the hall and then be sent to the church.

On Tuesday students will participate in Field Day from 12:45-3:00 p.m. Students are permitted to wear their P.E. clothes during Field Day activities.

Our annual Catholic Schools Week Open House will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. Our theme this year is “Sister Cities”. Please come join us to see what your student and all our classes have been working on to celebrate Catholic Schools Week.

We will welcome Dr. Anne Borik to campus on Thursday to introduce her “Prayer in Motion” Program to our students.

The week will culminate with our annual food drive for St. Vincent de Paul. Thank you to those families who have already donated items. Items will be collected in classrooms until Friday.

I look forward to a fun-filled and celebratory week ahead.

Sincerely,

Bruce Hermie

Principal

5. The John Paul II (JPII) Young Philosophers Club

JPII Club image

Beginning on Tuesday, February 6th from 3:15pm-4:30pm, students in grades 6-8 are invited to come together for a little debate, a little philosophy, a little wisdom, and A LOT of Takis and chocolate cake!  This year we will have 7 meetings in which we plan to explore some of life’s most important questions like, “Can I be Batman when I grow up?” or “Is my dog thinking what I am thinking?” or maybe even “Does my BFF WTBFM?” While having fun answering these (sometimes silly) questions, the students will also learn a lot about true courage, real friendship, and they just might figure out how best to discover who God really intends them to be.

Let us know you are interested by signing up at this link http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0948a4ab29a02-john and we will keep you posted on meetings and topics.  For more information or to volunteer to help, feel free to contact Mary Crowell at 480-529-9657 or me_crowell@yahoo.com.
