Falcon Five-2

1. PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

Dear OLMC Community:

Recently, the first graders hosted their grandparents for Grandparents Day! We were honored to have them as our special guests. They visited with their grandchild, enjoyed some refreshments and listened to the children sing some songs. After the celebration they walked to the church and celebrated mass with the entire school community. It was wonderful to see so many generations praying and worshipping together!

Next week we will have picture day on Wednesday, September 26th. The photo order forms came home Friday with the children. Students should be in mass uniforms for pictures. If you have any questions, please contact the front office.

Sincerely,

Kelly Shewbridge

Principal

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School

1. PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

Dear OLMC Families,

One of the many benefits of the FFT Program is that it helps fund field trips, and this week had the first field trip of the year. The seventh graders went to the Arizona Science Lab. In Language Arts, the seventh graders have been reading Rocket Boys, which is a memoir about Homer Hickman, a NASA engineer who dreamed of launching rockets into outer space. Prior to going to the lab, Tom Balu, Mrs. Knox’s cousin, who is a rocket engineer, came to school and spoke to the children about how rockets work.

While at the Arizona Science Lab, the children listened to a presentation of Newton’s Laws to learn how and why rockets work. Then they learned how to calculate how high the rocket could launch. The children were put into groups where they created and launched their own rockets. The rocket that flew the highest went 369 feet in the air!

Friday is a half-day with a 12:30 p.m. early dismissal. Students are permitted to wear spirit shirts on Friday with their uniform shorts, pants, skirts or skorts. No jeans should be worn as it is not a first Friday.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Shewbridge

Principal

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School

1. PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

Dear OLMC Community,

I want to thank our faculty, students, and parents for a fantastic first week of the school year! It has been wonderful to have the students back on campus, interacting with their friends, and working hard in the classrooms.

I would like to thank our Home and School Board for hosting the first Coffree of the year. It was great to see so many of you there!

Wednesday is a Holy Day of Obligation, the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The parking lot will be very full on Wednesday, so please be extra patient at dismissal.

We will begin Learning Labs on Tuesday, August 14th. Learning Labs are open for students in grades 4-8 from 3:15 to 3:45 to go to their teachers for extra assistance if needed. Learning Labs are every Tuesday and Thursday. Please pick up your student at the classroom at 3:45. Those students not picked up will be signed into Kid’s Club.

We look forward to seeing the Kindergarten-6th grade parents on Tuesday, August 14th for Back to School Night. There will be a short presentation in the Church, and then everyone will move to the classrooms. This event is for parents only. The Junior High Back to School Night is scheduled for Wednesday, August 22nd.

Finally, Saturday, August 18th is the Dad’s Club Back to School BBQ. The BBQ will begin at 5:30pm. This is always such a fun night of food, friends and fellowship! This year there will be BINGO, too! Looking forward to seeing you there!!

Sincerely,

Kelly Shewbridge
