Principal’s Corner – May 28, 2017

hermie

Dear OLMC Community,

Another school year has come to a close. I wanted to thank our OLMC Dad’s Club for their efforts in putting on the end of the year barbeque this past Wednesday. The event was well attended, and it was a great way to celebrate the end of the school year as a community.

I also want to extend a very special thank you to all of our students, parents, faculty, and staff for a fantastic 2016-2017 school year. As the students looked back on the year through their yearbooks this week and reminisced at class parties, it was evident that they shared many good times, built friendships, and grew as a community. I wish all our families a safe and enjoyable summer. I hope this time away is one filled with joy and family time. We will look forward to welcoming our students back in August. May God continue to bless each of our school families and our entire OLMC community.

Sincerely,

Bruce Hermie

Corporations Can Help CEA

Did you know the State of Arizona allows corporations to re-direct their AZ state tax liability?

You can help children in need attend a school that best serves their needs by participating in the Corporate Tuition Tax Credit. Eligible corporations include C-Corporations, S-Corporations, Insurance companies that collect premiums, and LLC’s who file their state taxes as a C-Corp or an S-Corp.

Please consider redirecting your state tax liability to qualified Student Tuition Organizations such as Catholic Education Arizona (CEA). Please see the flyer for more information.

Newsletter: Last Week of School

newsletter

Principal’s Corner – May 21, 2017

hermie

Dear OLMC Community,

It is hard to believe the last week of the school year is upon us.  We will celebrate our final all-school Mass of the school year on Friday at 11:30 a.m. Parents are welcome to join us. Dismissal is at 12:30 p.m., and any student still on campus will go to Kid’s Club at 12:45 p.m.

This past week I was reminded of the many special things that make OLMC such a wonderful community. On Tuesday, I was fortunate enough to spend time with our graduating 8th graders who took a trip to the St. Vincent de Paul food kitchen in downtown Phoenix. I watched and worked with these young men and women as they gave of their time and talents to benefit those less fortunate than them. The students worked the gardens where the center grows produce, prepped lunch in the kitchens, and helped serve food in the lunch room. Their selflessness and willingness to serve was evident, and I found myself thankful for the experience with them.

This was one example of the way the class of 2017 helped shape the community around them. During their time as students of OLMC, they completed countless hours of service in many other ways. While I am sad to see their time at OLMC come to an end, I cannot help but feel excited about all the good they will do as they move forward into high school.

I invite all our families to attend the end of year barbeque sponsored by the Dad’s Club next Wednesday.  It is a great way to end the school year and have one more opportunity for fellowship before the summer.

Sincerely,

Bruce Hermie

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic School

We’re down to the home stretch, Falcon Families!

A big thank you to our Faith Formation Committee for decorating the school in honor of the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima.

This week our kindergarten students visited Butterfly Wonderland. As America’s largest butterfly conservatory, this beautiful, state-of-the-art facility features thousands of butterflies from around the world and several interactive nature exhibits.

The children viewed a 3D movie theater presentation about the life cycle of a butterfly before entering the indoor butterfly atrium constructed to imitate a tropical rainforest habitat. Inches away from live chrysalis, the students were able to see butterflies emerging and flying freely, even landing on some of the visitors. Other exhibits included glass encasements of desert insects, honey bees, and a freshwater aquarium complete with a touch tank of stingray.

Our second graders visited the Tempe Center for the Arts and saw the Childsplay production Alice’s Rock and Roll Adventure. Based off of Lewis Carroll’s books “Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Lookingglass,” this high energy musical experience follows Alice down the rabbit hole into a rock ‘n roll adventure.

Meanwhile in the third grade, our students received their First Holy Communion and Confirmation. Home & School marked the occasion with a small reception in their honor. For more on our third grade spiritual life, visit our website.

Our 8th graders were very busy this week, first with their 8th grade retreat at Chauncey Ranch, the YMCA camp, in Mayer, Arizona. Be sure to visit our Facebook page to see pictures. They also participated in a day of service this week at the St. Vincent de Paul dining hall before their big day, graduation this past Wednesday. We’d like to wish our brand new graduates the absolute best in their future endeavors! Congratulations, Falcons!

And finally, We’d like to thank those that participate in the Food for Thought Program for making learning opportunities like these possible. All of the above events and activities were supported at least in part by Food for Thought funds. The more our families participate, the more our students benefit. Thank you for your continued support!

Don’t forget to check out our Facebook page for pictures of our Seton Alumns and OLMC 8th grade award recipients.
