Falcon Five-2

1. Principal’s Corner

Dear OLMC Community,hermie

This week we will host our Kindergarten-6th Grade Curriculum Night from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The night will begin in the Church prior to moving to the classrooms. Please be reminded that this event is for parents only.

This Monday, August 21st, there will be a solar eclipse that takes place during the school day.  I would ask that you speak with your student(s) about the eclipse and reinforce for them the fact they should not, at any time, look directly into the sun. A RenWeb blast was sent to all families on Friday regarding the school’s plan for student safety during the eclipse.

Please mark your calendars for August 26th when the Dad’s Club hosts the annual Back to School Cookout. The event is free and all OLMC families are invited to come and enjoy food and fellowship.

Any parents who are interested in volunteering at the school must be Safe Environment Certified through the Diocese of Phoenix. The foundation course for those who have never been certified will be offered at OLMC on August 26th from 9 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. If you would like to register for the class, please follow the link below or contact James Salas in the Parish office.  All parents who have taken the foundation course must update their training with a video each year. The update video can also be found using the link below.

1. Principal’s Corner

Dear OLMC Community,hermie

I want to thank our faculty, students and parents for a fantastic first week of the school year. It has been wonderful to have the students back on campus, interacting with their friends, and working hard in the classrooms.

I would like to thank our Home and School Board for hosting the first Coffree of the year. We hope to see more and more parents join us as the year goes on.

Please be reminded that we will celebrate our all school mass on Tuesday of this week due to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. All students should be in mass dress on Tuesday.

I would ask that parents pick their students up from the parking lot behind school. There is no supervision at the front of the church and students will not be permitted to walk to Rural Road without their parents to accompany them. Also, please make sure to enter campus via the entrance on the south side of the Parish office. The driveway on the north side of the office is for exiting vehicles only.

We look forward to seeing Junior High parents this coming Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. for Junior High Back to School Night. The evening will start off in the church and then move to the classrooms. This event is for parents only.  The Kindergaten-6th Grades Curriculum Night is scheduled for August 23rd.

Sincerely,

Bruce Hermie

Summer Newsletter: July 30, 2017

Falcon Five-2

1. Principal’s Corner – July 30, 2017hermie

Dear OLMC Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year. As we look forward to the start of the year, there is some general information I want to share to help you and your student(s) prepare for a return to campus.

We will begin this year on Monday, August 7th with Meet the Teacher and Orientation. Orientation for all grades will take place from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. If you have a student in Kindergarten-sixth grades, you will also be able to visit the classroom, meet your teacher, and drop off supplies. Please remember that students should remain with their parents at all times during Meet the Teacher. As the teachers will be using their time to speak with students and parents, they will not be able to supervise students. On August 16th , we will have our Junior High Back to School Night from 6-8 p.m. We will begin the evening in the church and proceed to the Junior High after a brief informational session. This night is for parents only. Curriculum Night for grades K-6 will take place on August 23rd. We will also begin that evening in the church before transitioning to the school for presentations by your child’s teacher(s).

Finally, please make note of a few upcoming events. Remember that we will have Mass on Tuesday the 8th . Also, Tuesday, August 15th is a holy day of obligation, The Assumption of Mary, so we will have Mass that day instead of Wednesday the 16th . Please make sure your students are dressed appropriately. On Friday, August 11th, Home and School will host the first coffree of the year in McCready Hall. On August 26th, the Dad’s Club will host the back to school barbecue. We hope to see you there.

Please do not forget that the first three days of school ALL students must bring their lunches. Pizza will be sold on Friday and the lunch program will begin on Monday the 14th .

I am excited to welcome the students back to campus next week. I hope that all our families have had an enjoyable summer vacation.

Sincerely,
Bruce Hermie

Principal

5. Student Learning Expectations

New Student Learning Expectations (SLEs)

During the 2016-2017 school year, OLMC successfully completed the six year accreditation process in February, receiving the highest distinction. Out of this accreditation process, one of the areas for growth was an assessment and evolvement of our Student Learning Expectations (SLEs).

After reviewing survey results from the parent community, faculty, and other stakeholders, the decision was made to alter the SLE’s to better reflect the OLMC School and Church mission statements while taking a more virtue-based approach to the goal of educating the whole student. Our Diocesan Catholic schools recognize parents as the primary educators of their children, so it is essential that parents are aware of these changes and are familiar with the new SLEs. You will hear about the new SLEs frequently this year as the administration, faculty, and staff seek to make parents and students familiar with each virtue and goal associated with it.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Student Learning Expectations

An Our Lady of Mount Carmel Student is wrapped in the A.R.M.S. of the Church by being:

  • Respectful
    • Displays an understanding of social, cultural and economic differences

  • Merciful
    • Shows compassion for and is generous to those in need
    • Relates to peers and demonstrates forgiveness and support when necessary
  • Spiritual
    • Develops morality based on Catholic values
    • Demonstrates knowledge of Catholic teachings and traditions through worship and stewardship.
