1. PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

Dear OLMC Community,

I want to begin by thanking the Dads’ Club for their great cookout this weekend and for the very generous donation of $13,000 to the school and the Shea Fund! It was so nice to see so many of you. The weather was great, too! If you are interested in joining the Dads’ Club, let me know! This is a very welcoming group of dads who understand if you cannot make every meeting but would like to help in one way or another. We cannot do it without our volunteers!

We have been doing well bringing in our donations for the Shea Fund, and we are up over $425,000! Our goal is $565,00. Thank you to all who have donated.

There is one more calendar change I need to mention. After consulting with the project manager at Shea, we need to make Thursday, May 23rd a 12:30 dismissal. We will still have Kid’s Club this day. We have moved the Mass to 9am on Friday. The children will be dismissed for the summer after Mass. Please do not drop them off. There will be no Kid’s Club on Friday, May 24th. Student Leadership will be doing all the readings. Thank you for all your patience. We are going to return to a whole new campus!

This Tuesday, May 7thwill be the last day for Learning Labs.

This Wednesday we will not have Mass as the priests will be on retreat. We will have rosary at 2:15 in the church. Please come join us.

The first graders will have their Mother’s Day celebration on Wednesday. They will end their celebration with rosary in the Church. We look forward to honoring the mothers.

Wednesday at 7pm we will have the Kindergarten Stars and Stripes program. We are excited for the kindergarten students to shine!!

On Thursday we have the D-Backs game, and I look forward to seeing you there! We still have a few more tickets.

CRAYOLA COLORCYCLE

ColorCycleItHeader

As we clean out this year’s old school supplies, we are asking everyone – students, teachers, staff, and parents, to donate old markers to Crayola ColorCycle – an amazing program devised to repurpose used markers rather than sending them to landfills!

A drop-off box will be located in the office to deposit the markers. All around OLMC, please collect used markers that are ready to be discarded. Also, please bring in any used markers you may have around the house – even non-Crayola brands! Highlighters and dry erase markers can also be included.

The ColorCycle program has repurposed more than 70 tons of expended markers in the United States and Canada since 2013, and uses the most advanced plastic conversion technologies available today to make wax compounds for asphalt and roofing shingles as well as to generate electricity that can be used to heat homes, cook food, and power vehicles.

Thank you in advance for participating! For questions, please contact Annemarie Mulligan or learn more at http://www.crayola.com/colorcycle.

1. PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

Dear OLMC Community,

I hope you had a wonderful Easter with your family. We have a very busy May, so I will do my best to make this brief, yet informative.

This week we will not have Mass on Wednesday. We will have Mass on Friday, as it is May Crowning. This is such a beautiful Mass. I encourage you to attend if possible. The children need to wear Mass dress on Friday only. Mass will begin at 11:15. The children will be dismissed at 12:30, and any child not picked up by 12:45 will go to Kid’s Club.

On Wednesday, the fifth grade students will begin leading the rosary in the prayer garden after the 8:05 a.m. bell. Please stay and pray with us. We will pray the rosary every day until the last day on school grounds, which is Thursday, May 23rd. Remember, on Friday, May 24thwe will meet for 8:00 a.m. Mass and dismiss from there. There will be no Kid’s Club on Friday, May 24th. The last day will be Thursday, May 23rd, and it will end at 6:00 p.m.

The Dads’ Club is hosting their End of the Year Cookout on Saturday, May 4th. I hope to see you there! This is always a fun time!

The last day to turn in your PE uniform pre-order has been extended to Friday, May 3rd at 8:30 a.m. Please send these order forms in! Meet the Teacher/Orientation on August 5th will be the next opportunity to purchase, and they will be sold at full price then.

We have two field trips coming up. The fifth graders will go to the MIM on Tuesday, and the second graders will be taking a trip to SeaLife. Your FFT dollars help to fund these trips. Thank you for purchasing your scrip!

The School Supply Kits will go on sale this week. Attached to the newsletter is the link to order. (Account #80193). Ten percent from the sales of these kits will go to the Shea Family Charities Fund. These kits are simply an option as you may purchase the supplies on your own.

I wanted to thank all the parents who ran for the School Advisory Board. I appreciate your time and talent. The three parents who will be joining the board next year are Laura Barnett, Kellie Soper, and Jennifer Blackstad (who has graciously accepted the invitation to renew her seat on the board). Again, thank you all for wanting to be a part of this board.

If you have not had the opportunity to pick up your free Diamondbacks tickets in the office, we still have some. The game is Thursday, May 9that 6:40 against the Braves.

I am excited to see the children tomorrow!

Blessings,

Dr. Shewbridge

4. COMMUNITY

TREK THROUGH THE DESERT

Trek Through the DesertTo commemorate our Lenten journey, on Wednesday morning, April 17, 2019, students will participate in OLMC’s annual ‘Trek through the Desert’. This is a school-wide reenactment of the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt, in observance of Passover and the journey of God’s people to the promised land.

Students are invited to get in the spirit of the day by dressing as the Hebrews of Moses’ time, in some sort of robe or tunic with a head-cloth (worn over the school uniform). Bathrobes, an old towel or sheet with a rope belt, and a cloth for a head covering with a tie or elastic headband are just some ideas. Do not feel the need to buy a costume for your child, as the special dress for the day is completely voluntary.

The classes will be assigned to one of the 12 tribes of Israel, hear Old Testament readings, and re-enact the Israelites’ flight from slavery. The journey will culminate in the church as the 8th graders present the Living Stations of the Cross. Families are welcome to participate in all of the day’s events. School will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m.
